Anthony was born in Astoria, New York. He began singing in high
school and sung in the entertainment division in the army. Then
Tony began performing in clubs in New York City and was discovered
in a Greenwich Village nightclub by Bob Hope. He soon became a
singing star. Tony had many popular hits, and was a favorite singer
of the great jazz bandleaders—he sung with the Woody Herman,
Duke Ellington and Count Basie orchestras. Jazz musicians love Tony's
sensitivity and his great sense of time. Whether he sings softly or really
sings out, Tony always swings! Mr. Bennett performs all over the world
and records brilliant music year after year. He is truly a master of song.
