Nathanial was born in Montgomery, Alabama and grew up in
Chicago. When he was only twelve years old, he sang and
played organ in the church where his father was pastor. His three
brothers also played music. Nat went to Los Angeles and
soon became one of the most respected piano players in the
swing style. Then he formed the famous King Cole Trio and
became a favorite in Hollywood. The trio sometimes sang together,
but then Nat began to sing solo. His smooth and elegant voice
made him an instant celebrity. Nat recorded many hit songs, made
movies and had his own radio shows and television specials.
Mr. Cole was one of the most popular and admired singers ever.
